GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow (11-14 years old)
American Red Cross GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow is
a great first step toward a job as a lifeguard. The
course includes lessons to develop aquatic knowledge and
skills needed to successfully complete the American Red
Cross Lifeguarding course upon turning 15 years old.
Hours vary
Cost: $20 month This course is to prepare
individuals to become lifeguards. Swimming skills and
lifeguard skills will be taught. . Class starts in
January and continues throughout the summer. Call for
more information on guard start program.
Pre-requisite: Must be able to swim 100 yards
continually. At least 50 yards must be with the front
crawl before enrolling in class. High School age may
participate in the swim team with Marsh Valley High
School.
Lifeguarding* (15+ years old)
American Red Cross Lifeguarding is ideal for people who
want to work at traditional pools. The course teaches
professionalism, patron and facility surveillance,
victim recognition, equipment-based rescues, and caring
for head, neck and back injuries.

Class:
Thursday
from 6-8 pm PM. $5 per class.
Included in course fee if registered to take the
lifeguard course and deposit of $35 is paid.
Starts January 27th
Full Lifeguard
Course:
Cost: $135. Registration Deadline is March 1st. $35
non- refundable deposit is required at time of
registration. Remaining $100 will be due after the
pre-requisite course and is non-refundable after
lifeguard course begins. Includes books and CPR mask.
You can choose to download the manual and bring a laptop
to class. Deduct $35 from class fee for this option.
Must be to the pre-requisite on March 3rd, 2011.
Students will determine class times. *Must be at least
age 15 by March 1st 2011. Certification valid for 3
years with current CPR Certification.
Lifeguarding Recertification including CPR: $60
+ cost of pocket mask. *Must attend lifeguard course
skills dates and CPR dates to certify. Schedule will be
ready the 2nd week of March. Includes lap swimming in
January & February if needed.
Lifeguard Course
Pre-requisite
Swim 300 yards continuously using the following
strokes:
100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a
stabilizing, propellant kick
100 breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide
sequence
100 yards of using either the front crawl or
breaststroke. *Combination of both strokes may be used
for last 100 yards.
Brick: Starting in the
water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke,
surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10- pound object,
return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the
starting point with the object and exit the water
without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40
seconds. Participant must hold the 10-pound object with
both hands, placing the brick on his or her chest, and
must keep his or her face above the water
Red
Cross CPR/AED Courses:
CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED/Oxygen
Re-certification: $25 + cost of pocket mask.
Re-certification class will be held May 7th, 2011.
Includes the new 2011 updates. Bring your own pocket
mask or purchase one at class for about $10. *Oxygen
only 1-year certification.
